At Handsworth, we want pupils to recognise that as part of a diverse and multicultural society, other languages are relevant to them and are an important part of their daily lives, even as young children.

We want children to be aware of other cultures and to continue to develop their curiosity surrounding this in order to give them a better and deeper understanding of the world.

We want to develop pupils’ understanding through Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking and give them the confidence to communicate effectively and comfortably.

​

We want the language to be “alive” to them and to have real meaning. As a result, we hope that children will see the benefits of language learning and that they will have a firm foundation in another language by the time they leave Handsworth.
