Impact

Assessment – As well as assessing children daily, teachers will undertake end of unit Assessments which will allow them to see the level children are working at. As well as this, continuous assessment using ‘Walk –thru’ activities during lessons will take place to support or extend children where needed. Instant verbal feedback is also essential to understand how effective lessons are. The Science Team and SLT review the assessment data and teacher assessments on a termly basis to ensure all children are making good progress.

Monitoring - Teachers provide opportunities to retrieve prior learning so children can build on their known knowledge.  Subject leader will monitor year groups to ensure Science is taught in line with the curriculum and is built up as children move up through the school. Teachers are involved in the monitoring process, led by the subject leader; this includes: book looks, pupil voice, planning, lesson presentation, use of resources, provision to children of all abilities etc.

Review - Methods of teaching and use of resources are regularly reviewed to assess the effectiveness of the lessons. Regular review of teacher’s view, assessments, pupil voice and self-evaluation will provide a better understanding of what is working and what should be adapted in a lesson to have a better impact next time.

Website – Feedback from parents and children on the class pages and Science page is very positive and show enthusiasm for Science learning by adults and children. Parents and children are also sharing their out of school Science adventures/experiences with their class teachers and Science subject leader.
